'Self-Talk Stickies'

1.

This activity does not require much setup or clean up at all. All you will need is the little face stickers I designed, along with sheets of the template for the activity (these are all included in the package you purchased) The only other supply that is necessary for the activity is crayons, or honestly any mark-making tool. This includes, but isn’t limited to, markers, pencils, paint, etc. (These are not included in the package you purchased)

This activity can be a fun one for the entire family and I highly recommend doing this activity with your child. A huge part of teaching kids to use positive self-talk in their own lives is to have them see it modeled in the adults they care about. As most parents know it’s necessary to keep the instructions for the activity short so as to not lose their interest. You also probably know not to give them too many instructions at once or else they could get confused by the order in which to perform the tasks or even what was expected of them entirely.

You can start the activity by showing the worksheet and explaining to your child that they should think of this kid as if it is them. Then instruct them to decorate this person showing it is them. You then explain the first question on the sheet. For example: “What I want you to do right now is think of one thing you are REALLY good at?”, you would say. You can continue by saying “For example… If I think about one thing I am really good at. I could say, I am really good at being a mom” (or anything else you are good at). Then instruct your child (or help them) write their answer on the first set of empty lines. Also, have them specify a bit more and fill out the second set of lines. For example, you could say, “One thing I am really good at is being a mom.  When I am a mom and I help my kids …

When your child is done with the first and second part you can then tell your child to think about how it makes them feel when they do the one thing that they are really good at. Make sure to have your child explain this to you aloud. This is a very important point since this is the “self-talk” of the activity. Then you have your child write their answer on the third section of empty lines.

This is the point in which you should bring out the sticky face stickers and ask your child to pick the ones that represent how they feel when they do that thing they are really good at! Again have your child explain aloud why they chose the stickers they did. Continue to let your child decorate their sheet, and encourage them to go and share their activity with siblings, other adults, etc. This is to continue this out loud positive self-talk!

For this activity, you will need to first download
the items I have provided for you, and also purchase sticker sheets to print on in your home. (purchase stickers sheets here)
The only other supplies that are necessary for the activity are crayons or honestly any
mark-making tools...

For the first part of the activity, you will need the worksheet printed for your child. This can be printed on normal paper either standard 8.5in by 11in or 11in by 17in. You can start the activity by showing the worksheet and explaining to your child that they should think of this kid as if it is them. Then instruct them to ...

For the final step of this activity, you will need the stickers. Once you buy the sticker sheets all you have to do is print my sticky faces design onto the sheet by running the sticker sheet through your printer as you would with normal paper. You should bring out the sticky face stickers and ...

'Self-Talk Stickies'

This version of the activity is going to look greatly different than the other print versions.
It is also going to vary from home to home since this version includes supplies that you can find around your home.

This activity can be a fun one for the entire family and I highly recommend...

You can start the activity by referencing...

This is the point in which you should introduce the idea of creating faces that... This is where the activity will vary greatly based on the materials you can find in your home. Some possibilities are having your child draw, color, or paint the faces. Another option for creating these faces is to use a found item such as buttons and taking a marker and other found materials to decorate them as faces. This option is nice because then your child can move the faces and add a more interactive element to the activity. The final option I will be suggesting is one where no physical materials are needed. In this version still, instruct your child to think of how doing the thing they are really good at makes them feel. Then have your child physically make the expression on their face that represents how they feel when they do that thing.

There are many other options for how you can conduct this activity, so feel free to get as creative as you and/or your child would like. The important part of the activity is that...
